About the Role

The Department for Science, Innovation & Technology is seeking a highly skilled Commercial Contract Manager to join our team. As a key member of our Commercial Services team, you will play a critical role in delivering our commercial strategy and ensuring the successful management of our contracts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide advice and guidance to operational contract managers to deliver best value and quality outputs for contracts and projects;
  • Support the Commercial Services team with the delivery of procurement and commercial activity as required, both internally and externally;
  • Lead on procurements, engaging with business unit and commercial stakeholders, creating procurement documentation, such as Invitation to Tenders/Request for Quotations, Award Recommendation Reports and Award Letters;
  • Provide continuous support to the improvement of commercial systems and processes, maintaining accurate data sources to support reporting activities;
  • Support commercial contract management activities for large technology contracts, including:
    • Supporting contract terms and pricing discussions with suppliers;
    • Understanding commercial implications of proposed changes and contract amendments (Change Control process);
    • Ensuring contracts align with programme objectives and maximise value for money;
    • Support contract performance and supplier compliance with contractual obligations;
    • Managing supplier relationships and addressing any commercial disputes or issues;
    • Managing contract documentation and records, including version control and archiving;
    • Working with stakeholders and suppliers, managing the relationships, providing commercial advice and ensuring supporting the delivery of complex delivery;
    • Understand the supply market, category, and business context to inform and deliver the commercial strategy;
    • Support the Commercial Contract Management Lead with maintaining a category pipeline to allow commercial support to start in good time to ensure a full range of commercial options can be considered.

Requirements

  • Have an understanding of Government Commercial and procurement policies and procedures, or be able to demonstrate equivalent knowledge and skills;
  • Be able to demonstrate experience with delivering value for money in projects;
  • Have well-developed interpersonal and communication skills and be able to demonstrate leadership and professional relationships;
  • Be able to demonstrate evidence of your commitment to personal development;
  • Be able to operate with autonomy, working flexibly and innovatively with colleagues from across different work areas;
  • Have excellent attention to detail whilst understanding of how your work impacts the commercial team and Department.

Desirable

  • Experience working within digital/technology;
  • Experience delivering digital/technology contract management;
  • MCIPS qualification;
  • Public sector procurement experience;
  • Be aware of Programme and Project Management techniques and experience of delivering results using these methodologies;
  • Good project management skills / experience;
  • Good data analytical skills.

Alongside your salary of £38,860, Department for Science, Innovation & Technology contributes £11,257 towards you being a member of the Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension scheme.

Office Attendance

The Department operates a discretionary hybrid working policy, which provides for a combination of working hours from your place of work and from your home in the UK.
