Job Title: Teaching Assistant - ASD Specialist

About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Teaching Assistant to join our team at GSL Education. As a specialist in Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), you will provide tailored support to students with ASD, enhancing their engagement with the curriculum and promoting positive social interactions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work one-on-one or in small groups with students diagnosed with ASD, providing personalized support to help them access the curriculum effectively.
  • Develop and implement structured strategies and routines that address the unique needs of students with Autism, fostering an atmosphere of consistency and predictability.
  • Facilitate social interactions and develop communication skills, encouraging students to engage with peers and staff.
  • Assist with sensory and emotional regulation techniques, ensuring students can manage their surroundings and participate fully in classroom activities.
  • Monitor, assess and record each student's progress, communicating insights and recommendations to teachers, parents and specialist staff as needed.
  • Collaborate closely with the teaching team, SEN coordinators and other support staff to promote an inclusive and supportive learning environment.

Requirements:

  • Prior experience working as a Teaching Assistant or in a similar educational support role in an SEN-based classroom setting.
  • Strong understanding of ASD and commitment to employing evidence-based support strategies.
  • Impressive communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to form positive, trustworthy relationships with students, staff and families.
  • Patience, empathy and flexibility, essential for meeting the varied needs of students with ASD.
  • Proactive and solution-oriented mindset, with the ability to work effectively within a team setting.
