Job Summary

The Clinical Coder will play a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy and completeness of patient data within our electronic medical records system. This involves reviewing incoming correspondence, filing documents, and entering pertinent information in accordance with our Coding Protocol and Quality Outcomes Framework (QOF) guidelines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Accurately code data on our EMIS system, ensuring compliance with relevant protocols and guidelines.
  • Identify and code relevant clinical information from patient correspondence, completing any necessary actions.
  • Input and extract data as required to support practice reports and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Filing and storing records as necessary, maintaining a secure and organized environment.
  • Photocopying and scanning documents as required, ensuring timely and efficient processing.
  • Actioning incoming correspondence, emails, and mail in a timely and professional manner.
  • Scanning patient-related documentation and attaching scanned documents to patient healthcare records.
  • Inputting data into patient healthcare records as necessary, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Answering incoming telephone calls, transferring calls, or dealing with caller requests in a polite and professional manner.
  • Carrying out system searches as requested, providing timely and accurate results.
  • Maintaining a clean, tidy, and effective working area at all times.
  • Checking incoming medical summaries and recording them into the clinical system.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Review and update the practice coding policy as required, in conjunction with the Deputy Practice Manager.
  • Participate in audit activities as directed by the audit lead.
  • Support reception staff, providing cover during staff absences.
  • Book appointments as necessary.
Confidentiality and Health & Safety

The Clinical Coder will be expected to maintain confidentiality and adhere to our practice policies and procedures regarding confidentiality and the protection of personal and sensitive data. They will also be responsible for promoting and maintaining their own and others' health, safety, and security, as defined in our practice health and safety policy, manual, and infection control policy.

Personal/Professional Development

The Clinical Coder will participate in any training programme implemented by the practice as part of this employment, including an annual individual performance review and taking responsibility for maintaining a record of their own personal and/or professional development.

Quality

The Clinical Coder will strive to maintain quality within the practice, including alerting other team members to issues of quality and risk, assessing their own performance, and taking accountability for their actions.

Communication

The Clinical Coder will recognize the importance of effective communication within the team and will strive to communicate effectively with other team members, patients, and carers, recognizing people's needs for alternative methods of communication and responding accordingly.
