About the Role

The Open University UK is seeking a skilled Product Director to lead the development of its digital products. As a key member of the Digital Services team, you will be responsible for defining product roadmaps, aligning with business goals, and ensuring successful delivery of outcomes across the group.

You will work closely with the Group Leads for Design and Engineering, as well as the Group Digital Service Leader, to help teams decide what problems to solve, create products that are viable, feasible, usable, and valuable, and ensure successful delivery of outcomes across the group.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure successful delivery of outcomes across a portfolio of related products and services, including support, running, maintenance, and new developments.
  • Lead, manage, and motivate a team of product professionals based in multidisciplinary product teams across the group, ensuring professional development, defining future capability needs, and recruiting when needed.
  • Contribute to the development of an overall Product Strategy for the OU and help create an actionable roadmap to develop the maturity of the Product Profession.
  • Be a visible internal and external thought leader, sharing work openly and establishing close links with relevant professional bodies and networks.
  • Professional Experience: Experience in product management or a related field, including some time as a senior product manager or senior business analyst. Strong and demonstrable leadership skills, including the ability to manage, mentor, and coach teams of product managers, as well as the ability to collaborate with other teams and senior stakeholders across the University.
  • Agile expertise: Coach and lead teams in Agile ways of working, determining the right approach and evaluating this through the full product lifecycle. Oversee the entire product lifecycle of multiple products and services from discovery through to adoption, maintenance, and iteration, building practical problem-solving capabilities.
  • Data fluency: Data-centric in your approach to managing a group of products, ensuring that each product has robust leading indicators and metrics to progress tracking, communication, and decision-making. Can think critically, analyze complex data, make pragmatic decisions supported by evidence and clear reasoning.
  • Financial acumen: Apply laser focus to benefits and value prioritization, balancing quality, delivery, and budget at all times.
