Job Purpose

The University of Glasgow is seeking a highly motivated and organized individual to support the delivery of undergraduate laboratory sessions. As a Demonstrator, you will play a key role in ensuring the smooth operation of our laboratories, providing instruction and guidance to students, and contributing to the development of teaching materials.

Main Responsibilities

1. Under supervision, you will demonstrate and provide instruction to students in the use of practical equipment, conduct experiments, and answer questions related to those demonstrations for undergraduate level 1 and 2 courses.

2. You will assist and provide guidance to students who are carrying out practical exercises, ensuring they have a safe and supportive learning environment.

3. You will be responsible for maintaining laboratory areas, identifying and reporting any technical faults or problems with equipment, and taking action to maintain a safe environment.

4. You will contribute to the development of teaching materials and workbooks, ensuring they are accurate and up-to-date.

5. You will provide factual feedback on student performance and any issues arising during demonstrations to the course organizer.

6. You will ensure that material for demonstrations, exercises, etc. is prepared before the start of a session.

7. You will engage in continuing professional development activities to enhance the learning experience and contribute to the enhancement of the University's international profile.

Qualifications and Experience

Currently enrolled in level 4 or 5 of an MSci program at the University of Glasgow in a relevant subject or a cognate discipline, or equivalent.

Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 5 or 6 [National 5 or 6, Scottish Vocational Qualification level 2 or 3] or equivalent, and experience of personal development in a similar role.
