About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Healthcare Specialist/Science Practitioner to join our team in the Sleep Service at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust. This is a 12-month fixed-term contract or secondment opportunity for a skilled professional to support our team in delivering high-quality services.

Main Responsibilities

  • Perform, analyze, and report on in-patient and outpatient sleep studies, including respiratory polygraphy, full video polysomnography, multiple sleep latency testing, maintenance of wakefulness testing, and actigraphy.
  • Initiate treatment with CPAP and follow up on patients using agreed protocols in both face-to-face and telephone clinics.
  • Teach, train, and mentor students and junior staff.
  • Support flexible working arrangements, including evening shifts on a rotating roster, and travel to work at various locations as service demands require.

Person Specification

  • Relevant Sleep Service experience.
  • Willingness to undertake further study.
  • Competence in setting up, downloading, and scoring respiratory sleep studies.
  • Competence in setting up, monitoring, and troubleshooting CPAP procedures.
  • Experience in teaching Sleep Physiology to University undergraduates and nursing students.

Desirable Qualifications and Skills

  • Experience in performing, scoring, and interpreting full video polysomnography.
  • Experience in performing, scoring, and interpreting actigraphy.
  • Experience of mentoring staff.
  • Experience of working within the NHS or similar Public Health Services.
  • Experience of working night shifts.

Essential Qualifications and Skills

  • BSc Biological or Physiological Sciences or Equivalent.
  • Registered with RCCP, AHCS, or BRPT (or eligible for registration).
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development.
