University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a skilled pharmacy technician to join our clinical trials team.

Main duties of the job

This permanent position requires specialist training in GCP and IMP management. As a Senior Technician in Clinical Trials Pharmacy, you will be responsible for providing high-quality research and care for patients in all specialties.

  • Support the dispensing of clinical trials prescriptions.
  • Once ACPT qualified, support the checking of clinical trials prescriptions.
  • Set up assigned clinical trial studies.
  • Liaise with Clinical Research Associate/Organisation (CRA/CRO) to fulfill workflow tasks needed for each assigned study in setup.
  • Follow up in a timely manner on all queries with Clinical Research Associate/Organisation (CRA/CRO).
  • Efficiently produce study site file documentation.Qualifications / training required
    • Registered pharmacy technician in the UK by GPhC / registered Science Manufacturing Technician (Apprenticeship Standard- Level 3 Diploma in the Principles of Aseptic Pharmaceuticals processing) in the UK by the Science Council.
    • One of the following additional pharmacy qualifications: Accredited Checking PT (ACPT), Pre and In Processing Checking (PIPC) medicine management accreditation, TAQA assessor, CIPS level 4, foundation management or equivalent demonstrable experience of day to day operational management of staff and workload.
    • Experience of staff management/operational workload supervision.
    • Additional pharmacy qualifications e.g. Completed APTUK Foundation Framework, Foundation management or other recognised management qualification or demonstrable management experience.
    Previous or relevant experience necessary
    • Accurate dispensing of medicines (in hospital or community pharmacy or aseptics).
    • Hospital pharmacy experience.
    • Experience of JAC or similar computer labelling/ordering system.
    Aptitudes and skills required
    • Effective communication with others both in speaking and in writing.
    • Able to use a range of information technology programmes effectively including Pharmacy Computer system and Microsoft office programmes.
    • Experience of supervision of staff or trainees.
