At Red - Specialist Recruitment, we are seeking a highly skilled Fleet Operations Manager to join our client's team in North Ayrshire. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for the operational and technical management of allocated vessels, ensuring compliance with legislative requirements and classification.

The successful candidate will have experience in a marine operational or technical management role, with strong leadership skills and excellent communication and interpersonal skills. They will also have planning, cost, and contractor management experience, as well as the ability to deliver high-level consultative and solutions-based services.

The role will involve managing fleet operations, ensuring compliance with statutory and classification requirements, and providing advice and guidance on operational and technical matters to crew, clients, and other stakeholders. The successful candidate will also be responsible for supporting and liaising with the Compliance Department to ensure the Safety Management System is implemented effectively.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Managing fleet operations, including daily operations and client service delivery
  • Ensuring compliance with vessels' statutory and classification requirements
  • Providing advice and guidance on operational and technical matters
  • Supporting and liaising with the Compliance Department
  • Maximising vessel productivity and minimising downtime
  • Undertaking vessel inspections and audits
  • Identifying and implementing improvements to the Operations department
  • Preparing reports on repairs, equipment, and vessel condition
  • Preparing budgets and schedules for vessel maintenance or modification activity
  • Evaluating contractors, suppliers, and shipyards
  • Establishing relationships with suppliers and contractors
  • Planning and managing dry-docking, major repair, and planned maintenance activities
  • Reviewing dry-docking/major repair process and identifying opportunities for improvement
  • Effectively coordinating vessel operational and technical activities
  • Initiating and conducting investigations into operational difficulties and technical failures
  • Maintaining accurate technical records
  • Ensuring all relevant documentation and management information systems/databases are updated
  • Providing Masters with voyage instructions and preparing vessels in line with contract requirements
  • Building effective relationships with Clients
  • Participating in emergency response to effectively deal with emergency incidents
  • Constantly engaging in best operational and technical practice
  • Supporting performance and development of direct reports
