About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Research Scientist to join our Protein Metrology team at LGC National Laboratories. As a key member of our team, you will contribute to the development and validation of analytical methods to deliver National Measurement Laboratory (NML) measurement research programmes for government and private sector R&D contract commitments within the scope of protein analysis.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and deliver challenging research and development work to quality, time, and budget
  • Develop and validate analytical methods for protein structural characterisation using advanced instrumental techniques and sample preparation approaches
  • Collaborate with external stakeholders and collaborators to build and extend metrology networks to underpin the UK national measurement system
  • Deliver ad-hoc research commercial projects and report results
Requirements
  • PhD or equivalent experience in a relevant field, such as protein structure and dynamics, mass spectrometry, or biochemistry
  • Extensive knowledge of protein structure and dynamics, including experience with HDX-MS, ion mobility mass spectrometry, native MS, CIU, and crosslinking for protein structural analysis
  • Experience in the use of sample preparation approaches and hyphenated mass spectrometry for protein quantification is desirable
  • Troubleshooting and method development skills
  • Familiarity with bioinformatics tools and software for mass spectrometry data analysis
  • Proficiency in data analysis and interpretation related to protein mass spectrometry
  • Good presentation skills, both oral and written
  • Experience of planning long and short-term research projects, working within deadlines, and reporting
