Direct Support Specialist PRN- Addictions

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Direct Support Specialist to join our team at Seven Counties Services. As a Direct Support Specialist, you will play a vital role in supporting individuals with mental health and addiction challenges to achieve their goals and live fulfilling lives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teach and model activities of daily living (ADL) skills, such as personal hygiene, housekeeping, and meal preparation.
  • Monitor and provide feedback on performance of ADL skills.
  • Teach psychoeducation classes on recovery, including medication side effects, ADL, communication skills, and stress management strategies.
  • Plan and facilitate community-based activities, such as medical appointments, grocery shopping, and leisure/recreation/socialization.
  • Collaborate with community systems on behalf of individuals served, including schools, landlords, family, transportation providers, and employers.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Zero to one year full-time experience working with individuals who receive services for treatment of a mental health, substance abuse, intellectual disability, or physical health condition.
  • Ability to provide nurturing attention and care to individuals with disabilities.
  • Ability to communicate with verbal and nonverbal individuals.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Teaching skills.
  • Patience and empathy.
  • Maturity and judgment.

Physical Demands/Requirements:

  • Position involves considerable physical exertion, lifting a maximum of 100 pounds, with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • May include frequent lifting of patients.
  • 18 years of age or older.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Proof of automobile liability insurance.
  • Positive driving record.
