Job Summary

NHS England is seeking a highly motivated and experienced communications professional to join its Communications and Engagement Team in the South East. As a key member of the regional team, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality engagement and communications services to support the region's business needs.

Main Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Providing expert engagement and communications advice and support to the region on all aspects of their business
  • Producing a broad range of written communications to the highest standard, using expertise and experience to identify the right channels and styles for specific audiences
  • Developing engagement and communications for specific projects/campaigns and managing their effective implementation
  • Supporting colleagues and working across the region and the NHS England national media, briefings and FOI teams to gather information and intelligence to ensure effective region-wide and national responses to the media and other stakeholders
  • Maintaining excellent contacts and relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders

Person Specification

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Training or significant work-based experience in project management or supporting change management
  • Experience of working in a fast-paced environment, delivering against competing priorities and deadlines while also directing the work of teams/individuals
  • Experience of managing complex media enquiries and stakeholder issues in a communications role
  • Experience of providing a high-quality communications service during a crisis/major incident
  • Good understanding of varied communication channels, their impact, limitations, risks and opportunities, and good experience in their use

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • Excellent levels of written and verbal communication, with the ability to explain complicated issues fluently and persuasively
  • Excellent ability to spot the 'story' in the detail of policy, whether that be one of opportunity or risk
  • Recognise when business or communications activity is likely to create risk and consult with senior colleagues, contributing to resolving the problem with the ability to anticipate and resolve problems before they arise
