As a Senior Risk and Control Specialist at Barclays UK, you will play a crucial role in supporting our transformational journey to ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of our internal controls framework, technology, and cyber standards.

To be successful in this position, you should have:

  • Strong practical knowledge of technology risk and control.
  • Ability to identify key stakeholders and work collaboratively with them to deliver regulated risk, control, and change requirements.
  • Understanding of regulatory requirements relevant to the business area in which the job operates and an ability to apply these to day-to-day activities.
  • Experience in risk-based technology auditing or risk/control activities within a technology environment.

You may be assessed on key critical skills relevant for success in this role, such as risk and controls, change and transformation, business acumen, strategic thinking, and digital and technology, as well as job-specific technical skills.

Key Accountabilities

  • Collaboration across the bank to maintain a satisfactory, robust, and efficient control environment through the execution of ad-hoc assessments and testing on the design and operational effectiveness of the internal controls, aligned to control policies and standards.
  • Development of detailed test plans and procedures to identify weaknesses in internal controls and other initiatives aligned to the bank's control framework to mitigate any potential risks and issues, prioritized by its severity to disrupt bank operations, potential losses, and reputational impact.
  • Communication of key findings and observations to the relevant stakeholders and business units to improve overall control efficiency and provide corrective actions to senior managers.
  • Identification of ways to mitigate risk and development of new policies/procedures in support of the control and governance agenda.
  • Ownership for managing risk and strengthening controls in relation to the work done.
  • Collaboration with other areas of work, for business-aligned support areas to keep up to speed with business activity and the business strategy.
  • Engagement in complex analysis of data from multiple sources of information, internal and external sources such as procedures and practices (in other areas, teams, companies, etc) to solve problems creatively and effectively.
