Head of Enterprise Systems Change

Reports to Director of IT Operations, IT Office

This is a full-time position on Crick terms and conditions of employment.

Summary

We seek a dynamic and experienced individual to lead our new Enterprise Systems Change team. This pivotal role involves overseeing the creation, integration, and maintenance of processes within operational critical enterprise applications, ensuring they support the institute's strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership and Management
    • Lead and mentor a team of developers and integration specialists, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
    • Work with specialists and virtual team members from across the organisation to ensure a consistent and high-quality delivery approach.
    • Manage team workload, prioritise projects, and ensure timely delivery of high-quality solutions.
    • Conduct regular performance reviews and provide professional development opportunities for team members.
    • Mentor and coach individuals within the team and across the department and beyond.
  • Application Development
    • Oversee the development of enterprise applications, ensuring they meet business requirements and industry standards.
    • Ensure robust software development practices, including coding standards, testing, and documentation, are following and enhanced.
    • Working closely with the Business Analysis team, collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements, define technical specifications, and develop project plans.
  • Application Integration
    • Design and implement integration solutions that connect various enterprise applications and systems.
    • Ensure seamless data flow and interoperability between systems, enhancing overall operational efficiency.
    • Utilise middleware and integration platforms to streamline and automate processes.
  • Communication
    • Ensure all stakeholders are informed of relevant improvements and other change activities.
    • Work with the ITO Operational Support team to ensure they have the understanding, skills and updated documentation to deliver the day-to-day run activity within these systems.
    • Establish a champions or key users network across the organisation to help ensure successful communications and gather additional input from frequent users.
  • Governance and Risk Management
    • Review, enhance and enforce IT policies, standards, and procedures to ensure data security and compliance requirements are met while ensuring operational efficiency remains a key objective.
    • Working closely with the IT Security Operations Team, manage risks associated with IT, including cyber threats, data breaches, and technological disruptions.
    • Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory and legal requirements, through audits and reports delivered in collaboration of Chief Information Security Officer and team.
  • Project Management and Delivery
    • Manage application development and integration projects from inception to completion, ensuring scope, timeline, and budget adherence.
    • Coordinate with cross-functional teams, including IT infrastructure, cybersecurity, and scientists and other professionals from across the organisation to ensure project success.
    • Identify and mitigate risks, resolving issues that may impact project delivery.
  • Innovation and Continuous Improvement
    • Stay current with emerging technologies and best practices in application development and integration.
    • Drive continuous improvement initiatives, optimising processes and technologies to enhance service delivery.
    • Foster an environment that encourages innovation and the adoption of new technologies.

Key Experience and Competencies

The post holder should embody and demonstrate our core Crick values bold, imaginative, open, dynamic and collegial, in addition to the following:

  • Proven experience in leading application development and integration teams within an enterprise environment.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
  • In-depth familiarity with enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, customer relationship management (CRM) and IT Service Management (ITSM) platforms.
  • Strong technical expertise in software development languages, frameworks, and methodologies (e.g. Agile, DevOps, SAFe).
  • Excellent project management skills with a track record of delivering complex projects on time and within budget.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving technical issues.
  • Solid understanding of application security best practices and compliance requirements.

Desirable

  • Experience in managing change within ServiceNow, Salesforce and Workforce, as well as associated systems such as Adaptive and
  • Professional certifications in managing development processes such as Project Management Programme (PMP), Professional Scrum Master (PSM) or similar
  • Experience with cloud-based application development and integration (e.g., AWS, Azure).
  • Knowledge of data management and analytics tools and technologies.
  • Experience in the research or academic sector, understanding the unique IT needs of such environments.
