Business Development Role Overview

The Business Development Manager in our Hazardous Waste division plays a key role in supporting the hazardous waste transfer station in securing new business opportunities in the vicinity of our infrastructure.

As a skilled sales professional, you will collaborate closely with the local depot and regional management team, as well as the Head of Sales, to identify and implement high-quality hazardous waste business wins, driving significant revenue growth and profitability for local depots.

This 100% new business role involves frequent travel and overnight stays, covering multiple local hazardous waste depots.

About the Business Area

The Specialist Services division focuses on delivering waste management solutions to businesses in the manufacturing and distribution sectors. The ideal candidate will have experience and understanding of these business sectors, proposing strategic solutions that encompass continuous improvement, cost savings, best practices, and environmental sustainability.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Identify and implement sizeable new hazardous waste accounts (≥ £25K per annum).
  2. Work closely with the depot and sales management teams to identify target industry sectors and geographies for new business opportunities.
  3. Maintain a robust pipeline of prospects that align with the business strategy and deliver sales revenue targets.
  4. Collaborate with other business units and group sales functions to develop strategic growth plans for Specialist Services, introducing all services offered by IRM and Hazardous Waste businesses.
  5. Represent the business unit positively to all stakeholders, presenting a best-in-class perception for Specialist Services.
  6. Support and respond to tenders and requests for information in a timely manner, effectively interacting with other departments, including account management and internal teams, when handing over new customers.

Requirements

  1. Sales and development experience in a comparable field-based business development role.
  2. Achieving clearly defined key performance indicators.
  3. Waste industry knowledge, including relevant laws.
  4. Bid writing experience and ability to respond to tendering documentation.
  5. Numerical mindset, with the ability to understand numerical data.
  6. Computer literacy, with a strong knowledge of Microsoft Software, such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  7. The ability to digest and analyze data at pace.
  8. Agile, solutions-focused development skills.
  9. Experience in building and maintaining customer relationships.
  10. The ability to communicate with conviction, plan with precision, and work well with others.
