Process Safety Engineer

About the Role:
Join Sphere Solutions as a Process Safety Engineer and drive best practices in process safety across our site. You will be responsible for ensuring our operations comply with safety regulations and continuously improving safety procedures. Your work will focus on supporting our compliance with the Control of Major Accident Hazards (COMAH) regulations and embedding a safety-first culture within the team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct process safety risk assessments, including HazOps, BowTies, and Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPAs), to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
- Provide expert advice on process safety standards and systems, using industry best practices to ensure compliance with COMAH regulations.
- Coach manufacturing teams in risk analysis and safety management, ensuring adherence to the Management of Change (MoC) system and promoting a culture of safety.
- Deliver training programs related to process safety and COMAH compliance to in-house and contract personnel, ensuring they have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their roles safely.
- Participate in investigations of process safety incidents and support the development of preventive measures to minimize the risk of future incidents.
- Manage and develop key safety documentation, including safety case reports and databases, to ensure accurate and up-to-date information is available to support business decisions.
- Serve as a point of contact for Functional Safety and Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations (DSEAR) queries, providing expert guidance and support to colleagues and stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with COMAH regulations by updating and reviewing safety reports and coordinating site improvement plans to maintain a safe working environment.
Requirements:
We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Process Safety Engineer with a strong background in chemical, electrical, or mechanical engineering. You should have experience in operational environments and a clear understanding of process safety management. You should be passionate about safety, able to communicate complex technical information, and comfortable working both independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Knowledge and experience in risk assessment methodologies, including HazOps and BowTies, to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
- Familiarity with COMAH regulations and safety management systems to ensure compliance and promote a culture of safety.
- The ability to work across different departments and lead safety initiatives that drive real impact and improve workplace safety.
