Job Title: Director, Tax

HM Treasury is seeking a highly skilled and experienced individual to join our team as a Director, Tax. This is a unique opportunity to lead our Tax and Welfare policy team and contribute to the development of the UK's tax and welfare policies.

About the Role

The Director, Tax will be responsible for leading our Tax and Welfare policy team, working closely with the Chancellor and other senior officials to develop and implement tax and welfare policies. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of tax and welfare policy, as well as excellent leadership and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the Tax and Welfare policy team, providing strategic direction and guidance on tax and welfare policy issues.
  • Work closely with the Chancellor and other senior officials to develop and implement tax and welfare policies.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including HMRC, DWP, and other government departments.
  • Provide expert advice on tax and welfare policy issues, including fiscal events and budget planning.
  • Lead on distributional and equalities analysis, developing and deploying analytical capability to support HMT's distributional analysis techniques.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Outstanding people leadership skills, with experience of leading large, high-performing teams.
  • Sound judgement and strong strategic vision, with a track record of leading in uncertain and complex policy environments.
  • Excellent influencing and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to gain the confidence of and work effectively with senior stakeholders.
  • A strong understanding of tax and welfare policy, including the Budget process and fiscal and spending frameworks.
