Job Overview

As a key member of our culinary team, you will engage in all aspects of food preparation and the upkeep of our cold case, fresh pack, salad, and hot bars. Your role is crucial in maintaining food quality and presentation while ensuring compliance with stocking and sanitation standards. All positions at Whole Foods Market require a commitment to fostering a positive company image through courteous, friendly, and efficient service to both customers and Team Members. Each role must be executed in alignment with our established Standard Operating Procedures. Team Members should be ready to undertake responsibilities inherent in various roles and strive to support Whole Foods Market's core values and objectives, promoting national, regional, and store initiatives while adhering to all relevant health and safety regulations, including Food Safety and departmental compliance duties.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare food items for the cold case, fresh pack, salad, and hot bars in accordance with production sheets. Follow recipes meticulously to ensure quality and consistency in food preparation. Ensure all prepared items are appropriately labeled, dated, covered, and monitored for quality and freshness. Regularly check food levels and replenish supplies promptly. Arrive at your workstation punctually, well-groomed, dressed appropriately, and ready to work; fulfill all scheduled shifts and participate in required training and meetings. Deliver exceptional customer service, promptly addressing customer needs and employing suggestive selling techniques; respond to phone calls and pages courteously. Maximize sales potential through effective procedures for food preparation, storage, rotation, stocking, and merchandising. Adhere to established procedures, including Weights and Measures, health and sanitation, and safe work practices. Maintain a clean and sanitary working and shopping environment; ensure equipment meets Whole Foods Market cleanliness and safety standards; keep walk-ins and freezers organized and clean. Execute opening, mid, and closing duties as assigned; verify accuracy of signage and pricing. Report safety hazards and violations immediately. Perform additional duties as assigned by store, regional, or national leadership.

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Comprehensive product knowledge. Ability to accurately follow recipes. Solid understanding of food production and basic cooking techniques. Proficient basic math skills. Strong communication skills and a willingness to collaborate as part of a team. Ability to convey information clearly and respectfully to Team Members, customers, and vendors. Meet customer service expectations and standards in all interactions. Follow directions and procedures effectively; demonstrate strong time management and organizational skills. Passion for natural foods and alignment with Whole Foods Market's mission. Strong work ethic and capacity to thrive in a fast-paced environment with urgency. Understanding of and compliance with Whole Foods Market quality objectives.

Desired Experience

6-12 months of experience in a retail environment.

Physical Requirements / Working Conditions

Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Standing/walking for 6-8 hours during an 8-hour workday. Hand use: single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing, and pulling. Requires bending, twisting, squatting, and reaching motions. Exposure to FDA-approved cleaning chemicals. Exposure to varying temperatures: below 32 degrees Fahrenheit (freezing), 32-40 degrees Fahrenheit (refrigerators), above 90 degrees Fahrenheit. Ability to work in both wet and dry conditions. Flexibility to work a schedule that includes nights, weekends, and holidays as necessary. Proficient use of tools and equipment, including knives, box cutters, electric pallet jacks, and other machinery. May require the use of ladders.
