Cardiac Health and Rehabilitation Nurse

To assist cardiologists in the cardiac catheterisation laboratory, acting as a second operator during diagnostic investigations and procedures. Co-ordinate services provided within the laboratory and associated day unit.
Requirements & Responsibilities- Holds first-level registration.
- Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates programmes of care.
- Records vital signs and reports any deterioration of clinical condition to senior nurse.
- Recognises life-threatening arrhythmias and summons help.
- Performs and interprets ECGs.
- Performs venepuncture and cannulation.
- ILS trained.
- Scrubs for patients undergoing cardiac catheterisation, pacemaker implantation, and PCI.
- Teaches and supervises junior staff nurses and unqualified staff.
- Ability to lead the unit team if required.
- Helps prepare and escort patients under supervision if needed.
- Prepares the lab for clinical procedures.
- Maintains absolute confidentiality in respect of all medical and nursing records and inter-personal issues with colleagues.
- Interprets the significance of the patient's clinical observations and records, making decisions and planning in areas affecting patient care.
- Assists with manual handling and transferring of patients complying with the Moving and Handling policy.
- Maintains the privacy and dignity of patients and staff at all times.
- Delivers a high-quality cardiology service to patients at all times.
- Leads care management and delivery.
- Shares professionalism and clinical expertise with all members of the multi-disciplinary team.
- Ensures the provision of a high standard of care to all service users.
- Works within the framework of the NMC Code of Professional Conduct.
- Acts as a role model for junior staff.
- Maintains own professional practice and has knowledge of new developments and concepts.
- Promotes and participates in research initiatives.
- Ensures adherence to policies, guidelines, and directives at all times.
- Maintains a high level of competent practice within the Scope of Professional Practice.
- Ensures complete and accurate documentation of all clinical care provided in the department.
- Assesses workloads and is aware of changing situations and acts accordingly.
- Ensures compliance with all local and national policies.
- Participates in audit where appropriate.
- Completes all patient documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
- Participates in relevant induction programmes for new staff.
- Participates in educational programmes for own professional development, including mandatory training.
- Participates in ongoing teaching programmes and staff development.
- Acts as an educational resource for others.
- Encourages all staff to maintain their own professional practice and keep abreast of current developments and research.
- Liaises with managers to ensure that educational needs are met.
- Ensures that all members of staff are conversant with and adhere to policies and procedures, local, regional, and national.
- Ensures own training needs are met and maintains a development structure that will foster best practice.
- Completes reports and records as required by managers.
- Deals with complaints in accordance with local and Trust policy.
- Maintains effective communication with all service users and the multidisciplinary team.
- Attends meetings as required and liaises with outside agencies as appropriate.
- Ensures Clinical Governance standards are met with partnership of unit manager/s.
