About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Locum Consultant in Stroke Medicine to join our team at London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust.

Key Responsibilities
  • Contribute to the consultant ward rounds every weekend day and public holiday, working collaboratively with the clinical and managerial team to deliver high-quality patient care.
  • Support and deliver quality improvements on the Stroke Unit and in the community, leveraging expertise in stroke medicine to drive service excellence.
  • Provide clinical input into the early supported discharge service, specialist stroke community initiatives, and stroke follow-up, ensuring seamless patient care.
  • Take an active part in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training, sharing knowledge and expertise with junior medical staff.
  • Participate in clinical and other service activities, such as medical and service audit, to ensure a high standard of patient care and contribute to the management of the clinical service.
  • Contribute to the development of clinical quality and effectiveness in other clinical areas where these overlap with developments in stroke, driving innovation and improvement.
  • Advance the Unit's research programme, applying expertise in stroke medicine to drive research excellence.

Person Specification
  • MRCP
  • Experience in the management of stroke patients/older people
  • MD, PhD, or equivalent
Knowledge & Expertise
  • Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining (UK) CCST in General Medicine and Geriatric Medicine
  • Ability to take full and independent responsibility for the care of patients
  • IT skills and computer literacy
  • Independent thrombolysis practitioner
  • NHS experience within the last 3 years
Registration
  • Entry on Specialist Register in Geriatric Medicine and General Medicine via CCT (within 6 months of interview), CESR, or European Community Rights
Teaching
  • Experience of teaching and training undergraduates, postgraduates, and junior medical staff
  • MD or PhD
  • Evidence of ongoing interest and achievement in research
Management & Audit
  • Understanding the principles of clinical governance and its implications
  • Knowledge of finance/budgets
  • Ability to organize and prioritize workload effectively
  • Ability to plan strategically and exercise sound judgments when faced with conflicting pressures
  • Ability to motivate and develop the MDT, balancing departmental and personal objectives
  • Evidence of service audit or change management
Language
  • Able to speak and write English to the appropriate standard necessary to fulfill the job requirements
