About the Role:
The Radio Communications Specialist will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of radio communication equipment and systems on board the offshore marine vessel. This includes receiving and transmitting messages between the rig and shore bases, supply vessels, helicopters, and other stations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate and maintain radio communication equipment, including radios, telephones, and other communication devices.
- Receive and transmit messages, including emergency communications, using radiotelephone and other communication methods.
- Maintain accurate records and logs of all radio communications, including telephone charges.
- Ensure the maintenance of electronic navigational aids and other equipment as required.
- Test and maintain standby radio equipment, including SARTS and EPIRBS, and radio equipment in lifeboats.
- Advise the Master/OIM of emergency situations and inform helicopter traffic of landing clearances and meteorological conditions.
- Coordinate and control radio equipment during periods of radio silence.
- Assist with the embarkation and disembarkation of passengers and briefings as required.
- Participate in training and development of crew members to ensure they are competent to work at their next job level.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Successful military discharge preferred.
- Graduate of trade school or university with knowledge and training applicable to job requirements preferred.
- Valid medical examination and vaccination certificates required.
