About the Role
We are seeking a compassionate and empathetic individual to join our team as a Music Therapy Support Volunteer. As a Singing for the Brain Support Volunteer, you will play a vital role in providing support and encouragement to people with dementia, helping them to feel at ease and participate in our structured group sessions.
Our Singing for the Brain sessions offer a unique opportunity for people affected by dementia to enjoy a fun and engaging activity in a supportive environment. As a volunteer, you will be responsible for welcoming and talking to people with dementia, providing encouragement to participate in the activity, and supporting the session facilitator with the activities.
The ideal candidate will have an interest in developing meaningful relationships and making a real difference in the lives of people with dementia. You will also need to be physically fit enough to move tables and chairs to set the room, and have a willingness to undertake emergency first aid training to support the group.
You'll be great for the role if:
- You have an interest in developing meaningful relationships and making a real difference.
- You want to enable people with dementia to find their voice through music in an incredibly rewarding role.
- You are fun and enthusiastic.
- You have the ability to listen and display compassion.
- If you are supporting our virtual sessions, you will need to be able to navigate effectively online and be able to use Zoom with confidence.
- Experience of dementia is not essential, nor is the ability to sing.
