The Project: Advancing Space Nuclear Power

This research project focuses on developing innovative fuel solutions for space-based nuclear reactors. You will play a crucial role in pushing the boundaries of material science and contributing to the future of sustainable energy exploration.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Conduct experimental research on the fabrication and characterization of advanced composite materials for nuclear applications, particularly focusing on CERMETs (ceramic-metallic composites).
  • Utilize non-destructive testing methods to evaluate the properties and integrity of these novel materials.
  • Collaborate with a team of researchers and engineers to develop and refine fuel designs for space reactors.
  • Contribute to the publication of research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present results at conferences.

Qualifications:

  • A PhD or near completion of a PhD in Materials Science, Engineering, or a related field is required.
  • Proven experience in experimental material fabrication techniques, particularly those relevant to composite materials.
  • Familiarity with non-destructive testing methods for characterizing materials.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret data and draw meaningful conclusions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential for effective collaboration and dissemination of research findings.
