Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Legal Assistant to join our team at the European Bank for Reconstruction & Development. The successful candidate will provide legal assistance and support to our counsel across a range of different matters, both in terms of substance and complexity.

About the Role

As a Legal Assistant, you will assist counsel in drafting, reviewing, commenting on, and negotiating legal and/or policy documentation. You will also conduct legal research, monitor and review the work of outside counsel, and perform other tasks as required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide specialist legal advice in a multi-disciplinary team with a view to protect EBRD's interests and ensure compliance with EBRD's internal policies.
  • Assist counsel in drafting, reviewing, commenting on, and negotiating legal and/or policy documentation, including analyzing legal risks and recommending solutions.
  • Conduct legal research, as instructed by counsel.
  • Monitor and review the work of outside counsel within the framework agreed with counsel.
  • Perform other tasks as required, such as developing and preserving thorough knowledge of EBRD's internal policies, procedures, and templates.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A law degree from a leading university and a postgraduate law degree from a leading university, or work experience gained in a country other than your home country.
  • Normally not less than three years' prior work experience as a lawyer in private practice or a comparable working environment.
  • An excellent command of written and spoken English, enabling drafting and negotiation of legal documents.
  • Excellent project management skills, ability to monitor and follow up on many activities concurrently under time constraints, and ability to understand and manage priorities.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to explain legal matters and provide guidance in resolving legal issues.
Benefits

We offer a competitive salary of approximately $60,000 - $80,000 per year, depending on experience, plus benefits including health insurance, retirement plan, and paid time off.
