Ophthalmic Theatre Nurse Specialist

Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled Ophthalmic Theatre Nurse to join our team at Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality patient-focused care, maintaining a safe environment, and coordinating perioperative care with minimal supervision.
Main Responsibilities
- Assist in scrub and circulating responsibilities for various Ophthalmic surgical procedures
- Handover and transfer responsibility of care to colleagues, ensuring appropriate information and care is relayed
- Supervise students of nursing, operating department practitioners, healthcare support workers, and post-registration learners
- Be flexible with operating lists, which can change at short notice
- Commit to an out-of-hours on-call service on a rotational basis
- Ensure high standards of care in accordance with agreed policies and procedures
- Administer prescribed medication effectively and safely
- Act as a role model and support other team members
- Keep up-to-date with nursing developments and research, incorporating into nursing practice where appropriate
About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity to join our Ophthalmology department and contribute to the delivery of high-quality patient care. As a Theatre Practitioner, you will work closely with the nursing team to ensure a first-class patient experience, streamlining the patient journey to optimize efficiency and effectiveness.
Requirements
- NMC/HCPC registration
- Evidence of meeting PREP requirements
- Able to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care
- Knowledge of clinical governance
- Knowledge of individual responsibility to health and safety and clinical risk
- Ophthalmic experience desirable
- Theatre experience desirable
