Job Summary

The post holder will be responsible for the overall delivery of clinical services, quality, financial, and other targets as determined by the Executive Directors. In partnership with the Clinical Director, the post holder will be responsible for business, workforce, and financial planning within their own unit and will work closely with other managers and clinicians to support Trust-wide objectives.

Main Duties of the Job

In partnership with the Clinical Director, the post holder will be responsible for the management of identified clinical and/or related services within a unit. This will include managing the performance of the unit against key targets and measures, ensuring that resources are deployed effectively, and that robust processes are in place to support the provision of efficient, high-quality services.

The post holder will also be responsible for relevant capital programmes and associated budgets, ensuring that staff, patient, and public involvement in service development, and developing and sustaining capacity and capability in the unit.

About Us

Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is looking to appoint an experienced and highly motivated individual to the post of General Manager. The Clinical Service Unit is composed of elective orthopaedics, dermatology, rheumatology, complex neurorehabilitation, and stroke rehabilitation specialties. The Trust has been granted regional hub status for elbow arthroplasty surgery, and the dermatology service is one of the largest in the North of England.

Job Responsibilities

The post holder will be responsible for:

  • Managing the performance of the unit against key targets and measures
  • Ensuring that resources are deployed effectively and that robust processes are in place to support the provision of efficient, high-quality services
  • Developing and sustaining capacity and capability in the unit
  • Ensuring that staff, patient, and public involvement in service development
  • Managing relevant capital programmes and associated budgets

Person Specification

The post holder will need to have:

  • Experience of successful operational management at a middle/senior management level
  • Budgetary management
  • Ability to develop and utilise effective professional networks
  • Operational and business planning and implementation and options appraisal
  • Management of staff from a range of professional and occupational backgrounds

The post holder will need to have:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of NHS Improvement Plan and timescales for delivery
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of developing and presenting effective business cases
  • Understanding of Standing Orders, Standing Financial Instructions, and Clinical Governance arrangements
  • Capital and Corporate Planning procedures
  • Understanding of relevant National Service Frameworks, NICE guidance, and other governance initiatives and how they impact on services in the unit
