Job Description

Role Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Public Affairs Specialist to join our team at the British Poultry Council. As a key member of our External Affairs team, you will play a crucial role in shaping the Council's influence and building relationships with key stakeholders in the UK government and beyond.

Main Responsibilities

  • Develop and Implement Public Affairs Strategies: Take ownership of key political and public affairs issues and work closely with the BPC team and members to design and achieve desired objectives.
  • Build and Maintain Stakeholder Relationships: Establish and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including MPs, Lords, Ministers, and their staff, as well as other trade associations, think tanks, and researchers.
  • Manage Political Events: Organize and manage political events, such as receptions, APPG meetings, and party conference meetings, to promote the BPC's interests and build relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Support Communications and Advocacy Efforts: Assist in the production of reports, briefing papers, and insights to support the BPC's communications and advocacy efforts.
  • Engage with Internal and External Stakeholders: Engage with internal and external stakeholders to strengthen relationships and gather information on key subjects.
  • Other Duties: Perform other duties as required to support the BPC's External Affairs team.

Person Specification

  • Education and Experience: Degree level or equivalent, with five or more years of experience in either political, public affairs, or trade association roles.
  • Key Skills and Qualities: Personable and able to build relationships with a variety of people, understanding of Parliament (UK and devolved administrations), ability to grasp complex issues quickly, ability to meet tight deadlines, and ability to work in a small team.

The British Poultry Council is the trade association for those involved in the production of poultry meat in the UK. Our member businesses account for around 80% of the poultry meat production in this country, producing over one billion birds a year, and cover the whole food chain: breeding, hatching, growing, slaughter, processing, and packing. BPC members are committed to producing safe, wholesome, and nutritious food for Britain.

Salary and Benefits

c. £50,000+ depending on experience, with a hybrid-working policy and proximity to London for in-person meetings and events desirable.
