Overview

Stirling Dynamics is seeking a skilled Loads and Aeroelastics Engineer to join our Control, Simulation and Dynamics group. The team is responsible for all modelling and analysis capabilities, including system performance, control theory, fluid dynamics, and structural dynamics.

The Loads and Aeroelastics sub-team performs diverse activities, such as:

  • Computing ground loads and flight loads
  • Vibration analysis
  • Flight physics activities
  • Support to certification
  • Prediction and analysis of flutter
  • Landing gear shimmy analysis
  • Landing gear shock absorber design
  • Load alleviation functions

The team works on various projects, including concept phase trades, equipment and aircraft design activities, through to certification activities and ground and flight test support. We collaborate with large aerospace OEMs on established programmes and with smaller start-ups, including the emerging area of eVTOLs and urban air mobility.

Responsibilities

You will be responsible for work in the loads and aeroelastics field as part of a project team. Your duties will include:

  • Building and verifying models for generating aircraft loads as part of the design process
  • Supporting testing, through writing test requirements, test procedures, and analysing test data
  • Model validation and calibration
  • Writing technical reports detailing the work performed
  • Contributing to the development of in-house loads tools
  • Supporting multiple tasks and projects, delivering within agreed timescales and budgets
  • Interacting with internal and external customers on a technical and programme level
  • Delivering engineering solutions at a consistently high standard (self-checking results)
  • Following the working practices defined in the project Quality Plan and company procedures
  • Ensuring given tasks achieve their full objectives

Qualifications

You should be educated to degree level (or equivalent) in a related discipline (Aerospace/Mechanical Engineering). A post-graduate qualification to a Master's degree or Doctorate in a relevant specialisation is desirable.

Skills

You should have a demonstrable understanding of modal analysis with application within an aerospace field. You should be proficient in using software tools in modal analysis (Nastran, Ansys, etc) and in the Matlab language and environment for analysis. You should also have clear, concise, and accurate technical reporting skills within Microsoft Word.

Desired Skills

Desirable skills include EXCEL for computations and analysis, PowerPoint for presenting technical information, Simulink/simscape/multibody, Fortran, Python, and line management experience.

Experience

You should have general industrial experience within aerospace, maritime, or defence engineering environments. Knowledge of aerospace standards, such as EASA: CS23, CS25, CS27, CS29, FAA FAR23, FAR25, FAR27, FAR29, ARP 4754A, DO-331, is also desirable. Experience as an experienced stakeholder manager, able to lead project reviews and generate effective reporting, is also desirable.
