Commissioning and Service Manager

Job Summary:

Vantage Consulting Ltd is seeking a highly skilled Commissioning and Service Manager to join our team. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for the installation and commissioning of bulk materials handling systems, ensuring seamless integration and optimal performance.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Lead the installation and commissioning of bulk materials handling systems, including mechanical, electrical, and software components.
  2. Develop and implement safe working procedures, adhering to CDM regulations and ensuring a safe working environment.
  3. Manage sub-contractors and third-party labor, overseeing the installation of silos, machines, and plant cabling.
  4. Prepare and deliver customer training, providing comprehensive documentation and support.
  5. Oversee the day-to-day management of assigned commissioning engineers, ensuring efficient workflow and high-quality results.
  6. Organize and prioritize work schedules to meet customer requirements and management objectives, including site visits, risk assessments, and tool/equipment management.
  7. Respond to emergency call-outs, attending sites or providing remote support, and writing professional reports for site visits.
  8. Identify opportunities for business growth, promoting plant/process extensions, upgrades, and spares sales to customers and management.
  9. Present a professional image, communicating effectively with customers and colleagues at all levels.
  10. Support sales staff with time, resources, and material estimates, as well as installation and commissioning plans for proposals.
  11. Collaborate with the Engineering Manager and/or Project Manager for accurate estimation of timescales and requirements.
Requirements:
  1. Apprenticeship or degree in a relevant field, preferably with 10 years of experience in installation and commissioning of equipment in an industrial environment.
  2. Supervisory experience in industry, with a strong understanding of CDM regulations and experience as a principal contractor.
  3. In-depth knowledge of weighing principles, Lean phase, dense phase, and vacuum conveying systems.
  4. Ability to work under pressure, with long hours, and suggest mechanical, electrical, and software changes to improve equipment design and function.
  5. PLC, SCADA, and database skills/knowledge are advantageous.
  6. Accurate estimation of timescales for own and others' work within a project.
  7. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Project.
  8. Understanding of basic commercial issues and taking pride in doing a good job.
  9. Experience working in foreign countries is an advantage.
