About the Role
The National Physical Laboratory (NPL) is a world-leading centre for measurement and standards. We are seeking a talented scientist to join our Electronic and Magnetic Materials Group, where you will play a key role in delivering world-leading measurement capabilities to industry and academia.
As a member of our team, you will be responsible for characterising magnetic materials and calibrating instruments, working with a range of sectors including aerospace, automotive, energy, and medical. You will also assist in the maintenance of facilities and equipment, and contribute to the development of new measurement capabilities and solutions.
We are looking for someone with a good knowledge of physics, engineering, and mathematics, as well as experience in computational analysis and problem-solving. Excellent communication and organisational skills are also essential, as you will be working with customers and colleagues to deliver high-quality results.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver customer calibrations and measurements in accordance with ISO9001 and UKAS accreditation (ISO 17025)
- Plan and make measurements, analyse data, and report to customers
- Assist in the maintenance of facilities and equipment
- Contribute to the development of new measurement capabilities and solutions
Requirements
- Good knowledge of physics, engineering, and mathematics to degree or masters level
- Experience in computational analysis using programming languages such as Python, and modelling software such as COMSOL
- Ability to problem-solve, observe trends in measurement results, and question results when needed
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
- Proficiency with MS Office applications
