You will be a key member of the National Grid team supporting 6 substations and the largest overhaul of the UK electricity grid in generations. This is a unique opportunity to be part of a BIG project that will upgrade the electricity grid to make it fit for the future.

Key Responsibilities

As an Electrical and Mechanical Fitter, you will be responsible for a wide range of duties on Substation plant and equipment. This will include installation of new equipment, refurbishment and maintenance of existing equipment, fault investigation and repair, as well as routine condition monitoring in line with commercial targets.

What We Offer

We offer a competitive starting salary of £36,774 pa, plus a seasonal working allowance of £1,794 pa, making a total of £38,568 pa. You will also receive a company commercial vehicle and fuel from home to work, 26 days holiday plus 8 statutory days, and the option to buy additional or sell holiday days.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need a minimum Level 2/3 recognised apprenticeship in electrical or mechanical engineering, or an NVQ/Level 3 electrical or mechanical qualification with relevant fitting experience. You will also need to demonstrate good all-round engineering skills, including working to Safety Procedures, Mechanical Fitting, Electrical Fitting, Hydraulics, Pneumatics, Working at Height, Lifting Operations, Panel Wiring, and Fault Finding.

Desirable Qualifications

High voltage engineering experience and IOSH certification are desirable, but not essential.

Working Arrangements

This role will require occasional stays away from home, with generous mobility and overnight allowances. You will be required to work weekends, but overtime will be paid.
