Carmichael UK's major projects team at Hinkley Point C, Bridgwater requires a highly skilled Senior Quantity Surveyor to oversee the construction of 9km of tunnels for a nuclear power plant. This is an exciting opportunity to apply your expertise in quantity surveying and commercial management to a complex infrastructure development project.

As Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for guiding the commercial team, managing relationships with project managers, and ensuring compliance with construction and contract law. Your ability to communicate effectively and set challenging goals will be essential in delivering high-quality services and resolving disputes.

About the Role:

  • Guide the commercial team in providing expert guidance on commercial activities
  • Manage relationships with project managers and stakeholders
  • Ensure compliance with construction and contract law
  • Communicate effectively with staff at all levels
  • Ability to set challenging goals and make difficult decisions
  • Strong understanding of economic factors affecting the construction industry
  • Manage commercial data feedback to Planning and Estimating
  • Review tenders and cost data
  • Prepare Target Cost for a Project
  • Coordinate the commercial team to identify programme issues
  • Prepare Earned Value Management
  • Report commercial progress to senior teams
  • Manage commercial data feedback to Planning, Estimating, Marketing, and Sales
  • Develop management plans for resource procurement
  • Dispute resolution options, structure, and SCL Protocol knowledge
  • Chain management and procurement techniques
  • Commercial Risk and Opportunity management
  • Disallowed costs management
  • Talent recruitment and development
  • Team performance management
  • Project commercial staff requirement determination

About You:

  • At least 7 years of experience in Quantity Surveying within a relevant business environment
  • Valid CSCS card and UK driving licence
  • Working knowledge of construction and contract law
  • Significant knowledge of construction techniques on particular projects
  • BSc or MSc in Quantity Surveying or equivalent experience
  • Membership of RICS, ICES, or CIOB (or working towards)
  • Practical application of Microsoft Office, predominantly Excel
  • Experience of using a cost system, e.g., Oracle or similar
