Job Overview

The Clinical Nurse Specialist will provide high-quality patient care and develop services to support cancer care through clinical expertise, leadership, and innovation.

This role is a key member of the multidisciplinary team, working collaboratively with clinicians and service managers to promote, develop, review, and redesign services that meet the needs of patients in line with national and local objectives.

The Clinical Nurse Specialist will have the autonomy to act and influence patient care and service provision.

Main Duties of the Job

  • Demonstrate leadership through clinical expertise, delivering high standards of personalised care by acting as a key worker, identifying needs through holistic needs assessment, and co-creating a care and support plan with people living with cancer.
  • Undertake holistic needs assessment, care planning, and evaluation from diagnosis, through treatment and beyond, ensuring high levels of autonomy and advocacy to deliver ongoing appropriate care and ensure individuals have a good quality of life.
  • Lead on the development, implementation, and evaluation of Nurse Led Clinics to support the delivery of Holistic Needs assessment either by telephone or face-to-face.
  • Establish working relationships and communication links between primary, secondary, tertiary, and independent care providers to improve care for patients and provide specialist clinical expertise, advice, and support when required.
  • Ensure that professionals adhere to the implementation and monitoring of relevant clinical guidelines, policies, and procedures within their scope of practice and speciality.
  • Be the patient advocate within the site-specific Multi-disciplinary Team (MDT) and request appropriate clinical investigations to support patient's assessment as deemed appropriate by their line manager.
