About the Role

The National Trust is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Area Ranger to join our team at Sandscale Haws National Nature Reserve. As a key member of our conservation team, you will play a vital role in the management and protection of this unique and diverse sand dune system.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the delivery of all work on site, working with volunteers, graziers, contractors, and partner organizations to successfully care for the site through the implementation of the NNR management plan.
  • Monitor and manage the breeding success of the significant population of Natterjack Toads, a key species of conservation concern.
  • Work with the Lead Ranger and partners to deliver innovative change at Sandscale Haws, ensuring the site can thrive in the context of climate change and increased visitor pressure.
  • Manage and lead a team of volunteers and contractors, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.
  • Develop and implement visitor engagement strategies, including the implementation of visitor zoning.
  • Support the Lead Ranger with the finalization of the new NNR management plan and the creation of a new Countryside Stewardship Scheme for Sandscale Haws.

Requirements

  • Practical experience of countryside/rural skills, including habitat and species surveying.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to manage and motivate a team.
  • Strong organizational skills, including work programming and budget management.
  • A proven track record of managing and leading on health and safety and environmental compliance.
  • A full UK driving license.
