About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Area Ranger to join our team at the National Trust. As a key member of our Countryside Team, you will be responsible for managing a Ranger and a group of dedicated volunteers working across our reserve. Your primary focus will be on delivering the aims of our site management plan and contributing to the wider aspirations of our portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a Ranger and a group of dedicated volunteers working across the reserve.
  • Create a varied work programme that delivers the aims of the site management plan and contributes to the wider aspirations of the portfolio.
  • Lead on the site and work collaboratively with local stakeholders to ensure the successful delivery of the management plan.
  • Ensure excellent standards of presentation and property maintenance at Sandscale and undertake visitor engagement and practical conservation work on a regular basis.
  • Develop and deliver the extensive monitoring regime on site, fundamental to the management plan.

Requirements

  • Experience in land, access, and conservation management, including delivery of small projects and supervision of contractors.
  • Strong wildlife identification skills and evidence of applied practical experience in coastal habitats.
  • Able to work safely, leading on compliance including writing risk assessments as well as safety and environmental procedures.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to nature and the outdoors - able to engage with visitors to help them understand the value of our work.
