About the Role:

This non-renewable Smuts Visiting Research Fellowship in Commonwealth Studies is a unique opportunity for mid- to senior career academics to conduct research at the University of Cambridge. The fellowship is tenable for 9 months, commencing from October 2025.

Job Description:

  • Conduct research in Commonwealth Studies, focusing on past or present countries and/or issues pertaining to one or more parts of the Commonwealth.
  • Advance Commonwealth Studies in Cambridge by pursuing research and taking part in seminars and similar activities within the University.
  • Deliver at least one public lecture in Cambridge, arranged in consultation with the Managers of the Smuts Memorial Fund.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • A PhD in a relevant field, received at least five years prior to the application closing date.
  • International calibre academics in an institutional position, with a strong track record of research and academic excellence.
