The UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology (UKCEH) is a renowned research institute focused on addressing pressing environmental challenges. We are seeking an exceptional science leader to join our team as an Associate Science Director, leading our Biodiversity and Land Use Science Area.

This vital role requires strategic leadership and vision to drive scientific excellence and impact within the Science Area and across the organisation. Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing strategic direction and oversight for the Science Area, ensuring high-quality scientific output and effective collaboration with other areas.
  • Identifying opportunities for innovation and integration across different scientific disciplines and stakeholder groups.
  • Leading and managing a team of 80-100 people, fostering a positive and inclusive research culture that promotes excellence and well-being.
  • Maintaining a strong focus on health and safety management within the Science Area.
  • Developing Business Plans that align with organisational goals, including resource allocation and financial targets.
  • Evaluating project delivery, financial management, and performance within the Science Area, making informed decisions on future directions.
