Job Title: Senior Engineer - Shock and Dynamics

Location: Barrow-in-Furness

Salary: From £39,000 - depending on skills and experience

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Engineer to join our Shock and Dynamics team. As a Senior Engineer, you will play a key role in ensuring the structural integrity of our submarines and supporting the development of sub-system requirements to meet naval shock requirements.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support Principal Engineers in setting sub-system requirements to meet whole boat naval shock requirements
  • Manage verification, validation, and qualification evidence to ensure sub-systems meet shock requirements
  • Develop design justification documentation
  • Support and undertake assessments of structures and equipment subjected to naval shock load cases
  • Provide design guidance at design reviews with respect to naval shock load cases
  • Undertake peer review checking activities
  • Support physical shock test activities
Requirements:
  • Mechanical Engineering Degree (or STEM degree)
  • Knowledge of undertaking structural design calculations (e.g. bolted joints, bending moment, shear stress)
  • Understanding of material strength properties and limits (elastic and plastic properties)

About the Team:

You will be joining an enthusiastic team of 10 members and have an opportunity to liaise with a wide range of stakeholders across multiple disciplines. The position will give you a great satisfaction of being a part of the team, playing a significant role in every element of submarine design.

As a Senior Engineer within the Shock and Dynamics department, you will support Principal Engineers with ensuring structures and equipment are verified against naval shock requirements. You will support requirements for sub-systems to ensure overall boat requirements are met. You will also support sub-system maturity in relation to naval shock and will provide design guidance to both internal and external stakeholders at design reviews.
