The Role:

University College Birmingham (UCB) is seeking a highly experienced safeguarding professional to lead and further develop its safeguarding and Further Education pastoral support services.

As part of the ambitious Student Services and Wellbeing directorate, the Safeguarding and FE Pastoral Support team provides front-line support and advice to students and staff on any relevant matters and are also the point of contact for external agencies and bodies involved in safeguarding and child protection matters. We are looking for someone who has the skills, experience and knowledge to take the team to the next level and to reinforce the principle that safeguarding is everyone's responsibility.

With a new 6th Form Centre welcoming its first students in September 2024 to add to its existing provision for Further Education, Higher Education and Degree Apprenticeships, and having just signed up to the 2024/25 University Mental Health Charter Programme, this is an exciting time to join UCB and be at the forefront of building on the existing support framework to deliver a truly excellent service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and further develop the safeguarding and Further Education pastoral support services
  • Provide front-line support and advice to students and staff on relevant matters
  • Be the point of contact for external agencies and bodies involved in safeguarding and child protection matters
  • Reinforce the principle that safeguarding is everyone's responsibility

Requirements:

  • Significant experience of working with young people and students in a similar setting
  • Excellent working understanding of all relevant legislation and statutory guidance applicable to this role, including, but not limited to KCSIE, 2024 and Prevent
  • Ability to ensure all members of staff possess an understanding of their professional responsibilities
  • Ability to promote good practice through the delivery of ongoing training and awareness raising
