Postdoctoral Research Scientist

The Pirbright Institute is seeking a highly skilled Postdoctoral Research Scientist to join our Viral Disease Reference Laboratory (VDRL) team. As a key member of our group, you will contribute to the development of new technologies for detecting and monitoring viral diseases, including Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD).
Key Responsibilities:- Conduct independent research and collaborate with scientists in the VDRL group to advance our understanding of FMDV epidemiology and evolutionary dynamics.
- Apply modern computational methods for molecular evolution, population genetics, and phylodynamics to analyze FMDV sequence data.
- Develop and implement bioinformatics pipelines for data analysis and visualization.
- Provide bioinformatics and computational analysis support to the VDRL/WRLFMD group.
- PhD or equivalent in molecular epidemiology, bioinformatics, computational biology, genetics, data science, or related field.
- At least 3 years' professional experience in managing, processing, and analyzing large sequence-based datasets, ideally related to infectious diseases.
- Expertise in R, Python, and Linux/Unix environments, with experience in using programming languages for data analysis and visualization.
- Ability to generate and customize data visualizations.
- Understanding of technological computational requirements for bioinformatics pipelines.
