We are seeking a skilled Estimator to join our client's team, a well-established construction company with a strong presence in the commercial, residential, education, healthcare, and heritage sectors.

As an Estimator, you will play a crucial role in preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for various construction projects, with a focus on the public sector. You will leverage your expertise in estimating software such as Causeway and Bluebeam to produce detailed and reliable estimates.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for projects, including materials, labour, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
  • Utilise estimating software to create, manage, and analyse estimates, ensuring the effective use of these tools to streamline the estimating process and enhance accuracy.
  • Collaborate with the Bid Writer and Pre-Construction Team to develop comprehensive and competitive bid proposals, providing input on pricing strategies and risk assessments.
  • Conduct thorough reviews of project specifications, drawings, and contracts to identify potential risks, opportunities, and cost-saving measures.
  • Leverage your experience in the public sector to accurately estimate costs for government-funded projects, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and standards.
  • Obtain and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotations to ensure the best value and quality for the project, developing and maintaining relationships with key subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Identify opportunities for value engineering while maintaining quality and compliance with client specifications.
  • Work closely with the Commercial and Project Management Teams to ensure that estimates are aligned with project goals and objectives, providing support during post-tender negotiations and contract handovers.
  • Continuously seek ways to improve the estimating process and enhance the accuracy of cost projections.

Requirements:

  • Extensive experience as an Estimator, with a significant portion spent working for a main contractor on public sector projects.
  • Advanced proficiency in using estimating software such as Causeway and Bluebeam, with experience with other relevant software tools a plus.
  • Deep understanding of the construction industry, including the commercial, residential, education, healthcare, and heritage sectors.
  • Strong analytical and numerical skills, with the ability to assess project risks, opportunities, and cost implications accurately.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams, clients, subcontractors, and suppliers.
  • Meticulous attention to detail, with the ability to produce highly accurate and reliable estimates.
