About the Role

Copello is seeking a highly skilled Senior Materials Engineer to join our Materials Technology team. As a Senior Materials Engineer, you will play a key role in supporting the delivery of authoritative metallurgical advice and guidance to all functions, particularly Operations, Engineering, and Supply Chain.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide expert metallurgical advice and guidance to support the delivery of high-quality materials and processes.
  • Conduct reviews of supplier technical and special processes related to metallurgy, corrosion prevention, and welding engineering.
  • Conduct and report on metallurgical investigations and research, including the preparation of samples, safe and correct use of laboratory and workshop equipment, conduct of analysis, and the preparation of test results and technical reports.
  • Contribute to the technical evaluation of new materials and manufacturing processes.
  • Support weld engineers in the assessment of pipe welds, structural welds, and cladding, including preparation and mechanical testing of samples.
  • Contribute to the review and maintenance of relevant Process Instructions, Workmanship Standards, Operating Procedures, and Risk Assessments.
Requirements
  • Qualified to degree level (BEng/BSc) in metallurgy or materials science.
  • Knowledge of ferrous and non-ferrous metallurgy.
  • Knowledge of metal forming and processing.
  • Knowledge of corrosion mechanisms and prevention.
  • Experience of working within a team of metallurgists and/or welding engineers.
  • Experience in conducting research and technical investigations.
About the Team

The Materials Technology team consists of various technical levels, and as a Senior Materials Engineer, you will be joining a team of over 60 specialists with backgrounds in metallurgy, polymer, welding, and materials science. You will support the delivery of materials and processes for the Submarines (SSNR, Dreadnought, Astute) program.
