Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, United Kingdom University of Cambridge Full time
Job Description

Fixed-Term Opportunity

The University of Cambridge is seeking a highly motivated and intellectually curious PhD researcher to work on a fixed-term project focused on simulating and exploring the design of next-generation AI hardware.

Project Overview

The project aims to develop a scalable and modular simulation framework for AI hardware, requiring multiple levels of simulation focused at different system layers and levels of fidelity. The goal is to enable the evaluation and development of novel hardware ideas for GenAI.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop a simulation framework for AI hardware
  • Collaborate with the research team to integrate simulation with real FPGA implementations
  • Conduct research into the design of simulation environments, including hardware for training Transformers and machine-learning based tools for result interpretation and analysis
  • Develop and validate simulation models at different levels of fidelity
Requirements

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in computer architecture, simulation, optimisation, and design-space exploration, as well as machine learning and systems research. A first-class honours degree from a UK university or equivalent is required, with a Master's degree in a relevant subject highly desirable.

Supervision and Collaboration

The PhD project will be supervised by Prof. Robert Mullins, Prof. Timothy Jones, or Dr. Rika Antonova at the University of Cambridge, with opportunities for collaboration with a team of PhD students and post-doctoral researchers working on this project.
