Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Civil Engineer to join our Civils team. As a Senior Civil Engineer, you will play a crucial role in creating detailed designs, plans, and specifications from concept to completion. You will work closely with project managers to undertake tasks on a wide range of projects, including Datacentres, commercial/corporate offices, finance, education, hotels & leisure, and mixed-use developments.

About the Role

This is a fantastic opportunity for a self-motivated individual with excellent communication skills to join our team. As a Senior Civil Engineer, you will be responsible for managing project delivery, technical requirements, understanding the scope of works, cost planning, and agreeing deliverables, specifications, and drawings scope for all projects within the Civils team. You will also assist the Civil/Structures Director with commensurate of fee for each project and assist in managing resourcing and invoicing.

Key Responsibilities

Some of the key responsibilities of this role include:

  • Monitoring resource relative to each project monthly allowable fee expenditure, defining monthly Civil 3D/CAD requirements, and two-weekly engineering workload forecasts.
  • Carrying out engineering concept design to detailed design, tender, and contract on site supervision to completion, ensuring projects are undertaken in accordance with design briefs and that completion deadlines are achieved, via frequent design reviews with engineers.
  • Ensuring all design projects and reports within the group are technically compliant, to a consistent quality and standard, and maintaining regular 'in house' design reviews and checks.
  • Client and design team liaison, assisting in the preparation of fee proposals, financial control of projects when acting as a project manager, and undertaking business development.
  • Ensuring your projects are delivered to budget, programme, and technical standards.
  • Defining, controlling, and monitoring design and construction costs on behalf of the Client.
  • Mentoring and developing Graduate and Junior Engineers.
  • Maintaining excellent client relationships and contacts to achieve high levels of satisfaction and repeat business, managing client's expectations, and promoting a team approach.
  • Developing new business opportunities where appropriate and participating with company presentations.
  • Motivating yourself and managing staff within the group to build coherent, high-performing teams, setting objectives, monitoring performance, coaching, and developing staff to optimize their potential.
  • Monitoring and controlling project progress, design variations, and project financial budgets.
  • Implementing management and administration systems (timesheets/expenses, etc.), coordinating holiday leave within the group.
  • As requested, carrying out staff Personal Development Plans in accordance with the Personal Development Plans Procedures, reporting any staff performance problems to the Divisional Director, and agreeing corrective action. Identifying and implementing all training/CPD requirements of staff within their group.
  • Implementing and managing QA systems and procedures on all projects.


Requirements

The ideal candidate will have a BEng, MSc, or equivalent grade in Civil/Structural Engineering or a relevant subject. Chartered or Incorporated Civil Engineer (IEng/CEng MICE) or working towards this is highly advantageous. A minimum of 4yrs experience in designing and managing projects within a design consultancy is required. Excellent presentation and communication skills are essential, as is the ability to undertake computer modeling, organize and direct the production of Civils 3D and CAD/Revit drawings, and correspond effectively with opposite numbers from other disciplines. Experience of monitoring contract staff or third-party appointments would be desirable. Good knowledge and use of appropriate project and design analysis software are also required. A confident and experienced provider of multi-disciplinary design services to Clients is essential, as is the ability to relate to staff at all levels. Familiarity with various engineering conditions of contracts and consultancy engagement contracts is also necessary.
