About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to work with pregnant and postnatal women, and their partners, in their homes, by telephone, and in virtual/face-to-face clinics and groups in the community. You will support them to responsively feed their babies their way (breast milk or combination) in the antenatal period and first six weeks of the postnatal period, with an emphasis on those who are less likely to initiate or maintain breastfeeding.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide breastfeeding peer support to pregnant and postnatal women, working within local policy and procedure, UNICEF Baby Friendly Initiative, and national guidelines.
  • Engage with pregnant and postnatal women at home, via telephone support, and in community groups.
  • Build relationships with those who would like to and are breastfeeding, in order to support improved infant nutrition outcomes.
  • Work closely with professionals, including Health Visitors, Midwives, and Family Nurses, in order to support breastfeeding initiation and maintenance.
Person Specification

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • An ability to plan and organise own workload.
  • A good standard of written and spoken English.
  • An ability to interpret and work within the parameters of standard operating procedures, care pathways, and other policies and procedures.
  • Evidence of understanding of confidential and sensitive issues.
  • Flexibility to be a team member yet can be self-reliant and self-motivated.
  • Interpersonal and time management skills, especially communicating with people at all levels.
  • An understanding of the diverse communities living in Nottingham city.
