Maintenance Officer

Harbour Healthcare Limited is seeking a skilled Maintenance Officer to join our team. As a key member of our facilities team, you will be responsible for ensuring the upkeep and maintenance of our care centre, including its services and grounds. Your role will involve carrying out day-to-day maintenance tasks, reporting and acting on any known defects, and ensuring the maintenance of the care centre's exterior. You will also be required to test the fire alarm system, check call points, fire exits, and door retaining devices, as specified in Company procedures. Additionally, you will be responsible for maintaining a 'Maintenance Book' in which defects are recorded by staff members. You will work closely with the Home Manager and other staff members to ensure that all maintenance work is carried out efficiently and effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Carry out day-to-day maintenance tasks, including minor electrical, plumbing, and joinery work.
  • Report and act on any known defects to appliances, damaged furniture/equipment, and any other potential hazards.
  • Maintain the care centre's exterior, including keeping sheds, outbuildings, and waste storage areas clean and tidy.
  • Clear snow and grit the drive, paths, and any areas to which clients, visitors, or staff members have access.
  • Ensure all external gardens, flower beds, and hanging baskets are maintained to a high standard.
  • Clean all signs and lighting outside the care centre.
  • Test the fire alarm system, check call points, fire exits, and door retaining devices, as specified in Company procedures.
  • Maintain a 'Maintenance Book' in which defects are recorded by staff members.


Requirements:

  • General maintenance knowledge/experience.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Confident team player.
  • Clean driving licence.
  • Use of a car or similar vehicle.
  • Willingness to receive training on current Health & Safety/EHO issues.
  • Satisfactory Police check and check against the POVA List (where applicable).


Desirable:

  • Understanding of central heating systems, laundry equipment, and hot and cold water systems.
  • Knowledge of current Health & Safety regulations.
