We are looking for a dedicated Child and Adolescent Mental Health Practitioner to join our team as a Band 6.

This role offers an exciting opportunity to develop your skills and expertise in providing mental health services to children and adolescents in need of support.

The successful candidate will work within the home treatment function, delivering care that is safe, effective, and tailored to the individual needs of patients and their families.

Main duties of the job:

  • Review patients seeking self-discharge from wards, ensuring safer discharge and effective management of patients presenting at A&E.
  • Complete home visits when risk-assessed safe, providing flexibility for supervised medication regimes.
  • Support patients with telephone calls as required.
  • Undertake accurate psychosocial/risk assessments and act as co-worker for service users supported by the Home Treatment Team experiencing acute mental health problems or psychological distress.

The post holder will also be responsible for acting as gatekeeper for admission to inpatient services, including those requiring assessment under the Mental Health Act. This involves providing alternative solutions through Home Treatment interventions where appropriate.

  • Providing intensive home treatment in service users' homes/community settings.
  • Identifying the need for protection in line with safeguarding children and vulnerable adult policy and complying with statutory obligations.
  • Evaluating systematically and recording outcomes of mental health assessments, adapting care based on these outcomes.
  • Involving family and carers in assessment and care planning with service users' consent.
  • Providing education and self-help resources specific to individual needs.

Person Specification:

Education/Qualifications:

  • Essential: RMN/Social Worker/OT qualification

Desirable: PSI Training experience

Experience:

  • Essential: Extensive knowledge of mental health legislation and guidance

Desirable: Experience working in Crisis/Home Treatment Teams

Knowledge:

  • Essential: Knowledge and experience working in multidisciplinary teams

Skills and Abilities:

  • Essential: Ability to provide leadership cover, supervise and support community support workers, prepare and record documents/reports.

Desirable: Commitment to professional development

Work Related Circumstances:

  • Essential: Flexibility to work over a 7-day week in response to client/service user needs.

We offer a competitive salary of £35,745 - £43,041 per annum, depending on experience.
