About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Commercial Technology Lawyer to join our team at Acturis, a leading Software-as-a-Service provider for general insurance. As a key member of our legal team, you will provide specialist commercial and technology-related legal advice to the Acturis Group, covering commercial contracts, IT/IP/data issues, Data Protection, and general legal advice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop in-depth knowledge of business and relationships with senior stakeholders to advise on legal implications of all aspects of a rapidly expanding international business.
  • Negotiate, draft, review, and advise on a broad range of commercial technology contracts, including SaaS Agreements, Software Development, License and Maintenance Agreements, Integration/Interface/Data Transfer Agreements, and Commercial terms.
  • Advising on Data Protection issues, particularly in relation to the implementation of the GDPR, and international expansion, as well as general IP elements of service offerings.
  • Proactively follow legal developments, update the business, and plan, advise, and implement legal processes and improvements to support and protect a growing international business.
  • Draft new template documents for new service offerings and draft/update policies for regulatory developments.
  • Work proactively, commercially, and pragmatically in partnership with client areas to build a relationship of trust and confidence, to understand business and customer needs.
  • Work in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment with a high volume of work requiring good matter management, prioritization, and communication skills.
  • Provide contract/legal development training to business.
  • Report to, and support, Group General Counsel.
  • Manage/provide mentorship to junior members of the Legal team.

Requirements

  • UK Qualified Lawyer with 4-6 years post-qualification experience.
  • Strong private practice training contract gained at a City, West End, or reputable regional law firm.
  • Strong academic background.
  • Experience in a software or new technology company is desirable but not essential.
  • Strong negotiation and drafting skills with good attention to detail.
  • Relevant technical skills coupled with the ability to work within a commercial environment in a business-facing role.
  • Strong commercial acumen and the motivation to proactively contribute to the success of this innovative, ambitious, and fast-growing business.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Desire to work proactively as part of a dynamic legal team in a fast-paced environment with direct access to senior decision-makers.
