Oban, Argyll and Bute, United Kingdom Scottish Association for Marine Science (SAMS) Full time
Research Opportunities

SAMS is expanding its science team and strengthening research in physical oceanography and marine biogeochemistry. Our research focuses on understanding climate change, weather patterns, and marine ecosystems. We are seeking a talented postdoctoral physical oceanographer to contribute to NERC-funded research programmes, using autonomous observational platforms and sophisticated physical analysis to investigate the dynamics and impacts of ocean circulation in the North Atlantic.

Key Responsibilities

* Utilize hydrographic mooring, bottom pressure, glider, satellite, and tide gauge data to understand the causal relationships between climate-scale ocean circulation and coastal/shelf sea level around the UK and Ireland on a range of time scales.
* Conduct research in physical oceanography, focusing on climate-relevant ocean physics in the North Atlantic.
* Collaborate with the team to advance our understanding of ocean science and contribute to the development of new research projects.

Requirements

* PhD in physical oceanography or a related field.
* Experience in using traditional and/or autonomous observing methods, data analysis, and computing languages.
* Strong communication and teamwork skills.

What We Offer

* A dynamic and supportive research environment.
* Opportunities for professional development and collaboration with a talented team.
* A range of employee benefits, including flexible working options, purchase of additional annual leave, and access to training and development courses.

How to Apply

Unfortunately, this position does not meet the minimum requirements for sponsorship to work in the UK. We encourage applications from all backgrounds and from all who share our values and can help us to broaden our knowledge and range of ideas.
