Cargo Operator Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Cargo Operator to join our team at Prax, a leading petroleum trading house. As a Cargo Operator, you will play a critical role in ensuring the efficient and safe movement of oil and petroleum products around the world.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Liaise with trading department to arrange shipments and ensure compliance with company policies.
  • Vet vessels against company vetting and compliance policies to ensure safe and secure operations.
  • Work with product managers and charterers to adjust scheduling in response to unplanned events.
  • Ensure Trade Finance Department is informed of all transactions and cargo information is accurately logged in trading/payment systems.
  • Proactively manage demurrage risks and nominate cargoes to terminals timely and accurately.
  • Issue documentary instructions and voyage orders, and nominate inspectors at load and discharge ports.
  • Liaise with inspectors, vessel agents, insurers, and other internal or external parties to ensure smooth operations.
  • Update trading system (Aspect) with accurate data regarding cargoes, including NORs, B/L dates, and actual volumes.
  • Ensure cargo quality is achieved and maintained throughout company's contractual responsibility during shipments.
Requirements:
  • Degree qualified with at least 5+ years' experience as an operator in the oil and gas industry.
  • Good understanding of marine operations, logistics, and refinery operations, as well as commercial impact and standard terms and conditions of contracts.
  • Understanding of tariffs, taxation, exchanges, storage terminals, blending, testing methodology, and inventory management would be preferable.
  • Experience handling crude oil cargoes would be desirable.
  • Good problem-solving skills and strong teamwork abilities to work in the operations team.
  • Strong commercial thinking ability and full understanding of deal pricing and risk exposure per cargo would be beneficial.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team, with effective communication skills to liaise with key internal/external counterparts.
  • German language skills would be beneficial.
