**Job Title:** Head of Product Development

 

At Drake's, we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Head of Product Development to join our team. As a key member of our product development team, you will be responsible for the development of our products from initial drawings to final sample.

 

The successful candidate will have a strong background in product development, with experience working within the menswear industry and across various categories. You will be responsible for managing the development of products, including the creation of critical paths, management of seasonal product, and liaising with Merchandising and Sales teams to create SKU counts.

 

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Managing the development of products from initial drawings to final sample
  • Creating and managing critical paths for seasonal product and collaborations
  • Liaising with Merchandising and Sales teams to create SKU counts
  • Defining and managing the budget for collection development
  • Liaising with Fabric & Trims Buyer for CMT product
  • Leading teams in the sourcing of new factories and deciding with Design where product is placed
  • Creating and maintaining a sample tracker
  • Creating and maintaining Tech Packs for all styles
  • Liaising with Fabric & Trims Buyer to ensure colour/wash continuity on repeat styles
  • Launch lab dips, strike off, and wash trials
  • Maintaining seasonal folders containing fabric swatches and bulk cuttings/lab dips/strike off
  • Request FDS (Fabric Data Sheets) from mills
  • Liaising with Design to launch P1/P2 samples with factories
  • Chasing in P1/P2 samples with initial costing
  • Arranging and attending fit meetings
  • Ordering and managing Salesman Samples
  • Chasing in SMS with costings
  • Liaising with Merchandising to identify any product not meeting required margin
  • Establishing which styles need a PPS/Shoot Sample
  • Launching and developing any new woven labels
  • Defining and communicating label placement
  • Defining washcare and approving label submits
  • Approving all Proto/SMS/PPS/Shoot Sample invoices
  • Ensuring Ecom team have all necessary product info
  • Working with QC team to resolve any issues

 

**Requirements:**

  • Significant experience working within product development, in menswear and across categories
  • Experience in the role of Product Development Manager/Head of Product Development
  • Previous experience in establishing/developing a team
  • Experience creating and controlling a product development budget
  • Existing relationships with mills, factories, and trim suppliers in Europe
  • Ability to communicate across different levels and functions within the business
  • Strong project and time management skills
  • Methodical approach, strong accuracy, and attention to detail
  • Strong understanding of garment construction, fit, and suitability of fabric/trims
  • Knowledge of fabric testing, standards, and industry requirements
  • Strong knowledge of Adobe Illustrator and Excel
  • Able to travel to UK and Europe as required
